Volunteer of the Month Team – Donna Kaylor and Maddy Mason

What better way to have some quality mother-daughter time than to spend a week together in Cusco, Peru, volunteering to help bring a brighter future to students with limited educational opportunities? To spark some great bonding time like this, and to give her daughter Maddy a chance to see the world, Donna Kaylor arranged a volunteer vacation for her daughter and herself over Spring Break this year. From start to finish, the two were a dynamic duo, setting out to make a difference in all those around them. In their own personal blog created just for the trip, Donna and Maddy recounted all sorts of adventures, from shopping at Target to prepare for the trip to celebrating Palm Sunday in downtown Cusco to teaching songs about llamas to the students. The pair grew close to the students and coordinator at the Albergue where the children stay, and close to each other, learning what it’s like to face another culture head on and immerse themselves in the newness of it!

This month, we have decided to highlight this awesome Mother-Daughter Team for our May Volunteer of the Month! Together they made necessary preparations for their trip, worked hard and diligently at the Albergue, and shared about their experience with people in their lives and online communities, and together we would like to recognize them for their dedication and commitment to improving lives cross-culturally! Vote for the Maddy and Donna team as May Volunteer of the Month by visiting Globe Aware’s Facebook page  and LIKING, SHARING, or COMMENTING on the photo of the two of them posted at the top of the page.

Check out Donna and Maddy’s blog for yourself!
