Kotoka international airport is the only international airport in Ghana. The Globe Aware program requires you to meet up in Accra. You will be picked up at the airport by Globe Aware representatives. The program is scheduled to begin at 6:30 on Saturday and end at 11:30 on the following Saturday. Send us your travel itinerary as soon as it’s available. If you won’t be able to make the scheduled meet up, you should notify Globe Aware immediately.
Flights arrive daily into Kotoka from a variety of destinations:
There are no direct flights from the United States to Ghana. Delta Airlines flies direct from New York to Ghana. North American Airlines (http://www.flynaa.com/) also flies direct to Ghana every Sunday with a return on Tuesday. These flights can be a good deal if you have a flexible schedule. Roundtrip tickets have been found as low as 996.20 round trip leaving from New York’s JFK.
Another option is to make a connection in Europe. Connections through Amsterdam and Milan Malpensa are very common. Flights leave for Accra daily. However, connections through Malpensa using AlItalia should only be a last resort. They have one of the worst reputations worldwide for their handling of checked luggage. Whole flights have been known to arrive at their destination without any luggage, and then to arrive home without the luggage that finally caught up to them just before they left. If you can avoid checking luggage this will be more of a viable option.
Another option is to fly through other regional hubs in Africa or elsewhere. You might be able to connect through South Africa (South African Airways), Ethiopa (Ethiopian Airlines), or Dubai (Emirates). All three national airlines are used to accommodating foreign dignitaries and consistently get high marks for their level of international service.
The final option might be to go through a travel agent.
Of course, you should always check out the major discount booking sites, to get an idea of what seems to be out there. We are proud to be one of Travelocity's Travel for Good Ambassadors, as the program is committed to helping people find ways to make a better impact on the world.

As with all of our other programs, and most of the developing and developed world, standards of living won’t be as high. But this is a valuable part of experience. Understanding the beauties and challenges faced by another culture hinges on understand this fact of life in Ghana and elsewhere. This being said, Ghana is a safe and culturally vibrant destination in a country that has been politically stable for most of its history, and has never fought a war. They’re waiting for you, and if you need any more help getting to the site or adjusting once there, don’t be afraid to call Globe Aware or speak to your coordinator about your experience. Go beyond your expectations and open yourself up to experience the beauties of our world.
If you miss your flight and are delayed more than an hour or two, the group will head on to the program site. You will then need to get in contact with the person you designated as your emergency contact, whom we will have contacted to give you instructions to get to the program site.
